Memories of Margot

Created by Mark (Viewpoint) 3 years ago

I first met Margot & Malc when they moved to Hampshire so I've only known her for just under 3 years, I wish it had been longer.

I remember many memorable moments we shared during that time, some of them surprisingly when Malc was taken ill and shortly after died. I remember jumping in the back of the ambulance with Malc & Margot because she said she didn't know the area and wouldn't be able to find her way home from the hospital. We came home on the bus and the ferry and Margot had me in stitches with laughter, regaling me with stories of her & Malc's life. She told me of the time she trained as a teacher and went to one of the roughest schools in the county in Havant, she told me about the numerous small boats they'd owned throughout the years and the many holidays they'd shared with their children Chris & Claire and she told me about the narrowboat they'd lived on.

When Malc died, I took Margot to collect his ashes from the funeral director and we laughed all the way home because the funeral director was wearing a pair of very short shorts and had a metal leg and Margot thought it was hilarious. Then, he gave us Malc's ashes in a red sweet jar and she went home and put him in the airing cupboard and then took great delight in dragging him out of the cupboard every time  she had a visitor and saying 'have you met my husband' with a grin on her face!

I'm sure we all have many, many fond memories of Margot, she was a true one-off, always cheerful and cracking a joke and absolutely bonkers! I will really miss her but I'm glad I knew her, even if only for a few short years. Farewell Margot, lots of love Mark x
